The 2024 Porsche Cayman enthralls with pinpoint handling, powerful engine options and a gentle ride. Its cabin is cozy and comfortable, though it’s short on frills, and adding options can get expensive quickly. The 2024 Porsche Cayman is a delight to drive thanks to a diverse lineup of refined and potent engines, slick transmission options, exceptional handling and a smooth ride. The entry-level engines exhibit some slight turbo lag, but otherwise, there are few complaints about how the Cayman performs. Fuel economy is about average for the class.
Engine Options, Horsepower and Acceleration
- Base engine: turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque (Cayman and Cayman Style Edition)
- Available engines:
- turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque (Cayman S)
- 4.0-liter six-cylinder with 394 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque (Cayman GTS)
- 4.0-liter six-cylinder with 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque (Cayman GT4 RS)
- Drivetrain: rear-wheel drive
- Transmission: standard six-speed manual; available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK)
The Cayman’s four engine options are all solid. The base turbo-four provides peppy acceleration and plenty of kick for daily driving, as does the more potent version in the Cayman S. However, these motors have a bit of turbo lag and don’t deliver the same sultry exhaust notes that the six-cylinders do. Both versions provide excellent power and fantastic exhaust notes, and they offer the most thrilling driving experience.
You can choose from a smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission or a refined seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (the GT4 RS is automatic only). The six-speed is top-notch and the best choice if you want to feel truly connected to the road. If a stick shift isn’t your cup of tea, the automatic is also very good and generally provides better fuel economy.

Handling and Braking
The Cayman delivers spectacular handling thanks to superbly well-weighted steering, controlled body motions and balanced weight distribution. This little Porsche tackles curves with aplomb, and its ride quality is impressive, making the Cayman a surprisingly practical and comfortable daily driver — as long as you can make do with just two seats.
